Quadrilla Twist & Rail

January 3rd, 2012

I bought a Quadrilla marble run set for my sons for Christmas so I thought I’d let you have my thoughts.

Before buying it, I wasn’t sure it would be robust enough to stand up to my two boys – particularly the hamfisted almost-3-year-old, but it’s actually fine. The wooden pieces fit together well and while it’s not exactly sturdy – it’s easily knocked down – I certainly wouldn’t call it flimsy.

The directions for building the marble runs are easy to follow and it didn’t take my 7-year-old long at all to start experimenting with his own creations and understanding why they didn’t always work.

It was absolutely the most successful of all the Christmas presents and I know it’s something we will all play with for years to come. Highly recommended!

(It wasn’t the Twist and Rail set pictured that I bought, it was the starter kit, but I know we’ll be buying more and more and so I wish I’d bought the full monty to begin with.)

Happy Christmas!

December 22nd, 2011

Warmest wishes for Christmas from all at Kiddymania and Dollymania.

Hope you and your children get everything you’ve wished for.

Thank you for reading over the past year. We really appreciate it.

Where do your Christmas presents come from?

December 20th, 2011

What did Father Christmas bring you? No, I haven’t got my blog posts mixed up, I don’t mean this year – I mean when you were a child?

I’ve got myself in a mess present-wise with knowing what my sons are getting from me and their dad and what’s coming from Santa. So I asked my friends about it and it seems everyone does it differently.

Some people got a stocking from Santa and presents from parents, others were the other way round. Some got everything from Father Christmas, but with the understanding that their parents had bought it all and sent it off to the North Pole for safekeeping, wrapping and delivery. Others had no truck with any men in red suits at all. How about you? Where did you think your presents came from and have you kept up the same tradition with your children? Tell us in the comments, we’d love to know.

Christmas list: Plan My First Dolls House

December 15th, 2011

A dolls house is another classic and wonderful Christmas present. Just looking at this one makes me feel terribly nostalgic and brings back the memory of my own first dolls house sitting waiting for me under the tree (it’s an excitingly large present too!).

This gorgeous wooden dolls house can be added to with further storeys and also wooden dolls house accessories, rooms and families and will, we’re sure, be a firm favourite and last through the generations. What more could you ask from a Christmas present?

Christmas list: Amy, handmade rag doll

December 13th, 2011

One of my favourite ever Christmas presents was a rag doll and I think this one, Amy, is unusual and adorable.

Expertly handmade to the highest quality andmade entirely from natural fabric, the rag dolls are made to the principles of Fair Trade in Sri Lanka.

All doll dresses are removeable and the bodies can be sponge washed, making these rag dolls ideal gifts for newborns or any young child.

Christmas list: Moover baby walker

December 8th, 2011

We love these beautiful Moover products and the Moover baby walker is also currently on special: reduced from £39.99 to £35.00.

The Baby Walker is designed in such a way that the first steps are made safely – and at the child’s own pace. It features a special 4-double wheel brake ensures that it moves slowly and therefore stays with the child. The positioning of the wheels and handle are carefully constructed to so that the Walker is 100% stable under all conditions.

And, like all the Moover products, the design is both classic and modern with the focus on what children like to see, touch, and play with. Beautiful.

Christmas list: Moover dolls pram

December 6th, 2011

We’ve written about the Moover wooden dolls pram before, but had to mention it again because it’s currently on special: £55 instead of £65.

The pram is made of high-quality birch veneer and has wooden wheels with rubber tyres. The back is made of one piece of moulded thin veneer. It is delivered assembled and ready to use.

And it’s gorgeous. A future family heirloom.

Little Donkey (costume)

December 1st, 2011

It’s that time of year – nativities and school Christmas plays. I love it.

Both of my children are “performing” this year, but, luckily for me, the schools are providing the costumes. I say “luckily” because I am rubbish at costumes.

But if you’re not so lucky, how about this gorgeous donkey costume (your child would need to be playing a donkey, obviously, but I kind of assume both of mine will be…)? With the donkey face on the pull up hood and with elasticated ankles and wrists this fab outfit will fit children from 3 to 5 years.

Christmas list: Quadrilla marble run

November 29th, 2011

I’d never actually considered buying a marble run for my sons, but we saw one in a shop last weekend and they were both fascinated by it. We went back to the shop for another look with their dad, and he was equally gripped.

There are a few different types of marble run available – some wooden, some plastic – but this one by Quadrilla was the one the boys saw and, after doing some online research, this is the one we’re going to buy. It’s rather beautiful, as well as being educational and fun.

Christmas List: Petal Fushcia rag doll

November 24th, 2011

I would have adored this doll when I was a child and I know quite a few children who would love to find it in their stocking this Christmas.

If Petal Fushcia doesn’t take your fancy, how about Petal Poppy, Petal Pansy or Petal Buttercup?

These beautiful dolls are expertly handmade to the principles of Fair Trade in Sri Lanka. Made entirely from the highest quality fabric and wool, they are suitable from newborn. (The dresses are removeable and the bodies can be sponge washed.)
