Mocc on with zebra slippers

February 7th, 2012

How adorable are these Mocc Ons?

Mocc Ons are moccasin style slipper socks that ensure babies and toddlers have warm and comfortable feet throughout the winter season.

My feet are freezing right now, so they’re looking pretty tempting to me, never mind my toddler.

They’ve also inspired me to look at a couple of other zebra items. I love these Noo Baby Bandana Bibs and who could resist this adorable Walking Zebra finger puppet?

Should children celebrate Valentine’s Day?

February 2nd, 2012

We’re not big on Valentine’s Day in this house – our wedding anniversary is the 12th, so we generally celebrate that instead – but they must have been talking about it at school, because my 7-year-old has started asking me questions.

Actually, it may not even be school – he’s seen the displays in the local shops and even tried to pick a card out for me yesterday. I’m not really keen on children being introduced to it so early – I know that in America (and I know this from TV, so it’s possibly it’s not strictly true), they exchange Valentine’s Day cards even in primary school. What do you think? Should children celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Possibly the cutest ever baby shoes

January 31st, 2012

I would totally wear these shoes if they came in my size. I love Mary Janes and I love polka dots and I love pink.

It’s a good job there are a couple of baby girls in my family and I’ll at least be able to buy some, if not wear them.

Babies in hats make you healthier!

January 26th, 2012

If you ever had any Anne Geddes pictures you probably won’t be surprised by this latest bit of research, but apparently looking at pictures of babies wearing hats can positively affect your health and help you make better health decisions.

No, this isn’t an early April Fool, it’s the result of real research: randomised controlled trials to show that people can use positive thoughts and self-affirmation to help them make and sustain behaviour change.

So what do you think? Does looking at Cat Baby there make you feel better? She really is enormously cute…

History doesn’t have to be horrible

January 24th, 2012

My 7-year-old is currently obsessed with Horrible Histories, both the (admittedly hilarious) TV show and the books. This is great news for me and his teacher since it means he’s keen to learn and this term’s subject is Vikings.

This Viking fancy dress outfit is completely wonderful. The tunic is finished with a chest emblem, the sleeves have faux fur gauntlets and the trousers have a mock effect furry boot feature. Plus it comes complete with a fur trimmed cape and a soft Viking hat with horns and a dagger.

I know if he’s sees it, he’ll insist I buy it immediately. Literally.

Baby on board

January 19th, 2012

I’m not sure why, but I rather love a story of a baby being born in an unexpected place.

This morning I read about a woman giving birth on a commuter train between New Jersey and Manhattan. She and her husband had been travelling into the city to get her checked over because she’d been having pains. But on the train they came to realise the pains were labour pains and their son was born en route.

Mother and baby are both fine and I should think a whole bunch of passengers had a much livelier commute than usual!

Bouncing baby ‘Blue’ for Beyonce

January 10th, 2012

I’m sure you’ll have heard by now that singer Beyonce has give birth to her first child, but have you heard the name?

Beyonce and her husband – rapper Jay-Z – have apparently called the baby girl Blue Ivy.

I originally read that the name was Ivy Blue, which I think is much nicer, but I must admit I’m kind of intrigued by a baby girl named Blue. I suppose Pink was already taken.

What do you think? Would you name a baby ‘Blue’?

Obaby buggy for your little artist

January 5th, 2012

I had a moment of panic this morning when I took my younger son’s buggy out of the boot and the front wheel fell off.

He’s actually old enough to walk most of the time, but we like the buggy for when he gets too tired or we want him to go to sleep or we get sick of him pretending he wants to walk when he actually wants to be carried.

I managed to fix our buggy, but if I hadn’t, this bright red buggy by Obaby is the one I’d be going for. The Scribble design is “inspired by budding little artists” and the buggy is suitable from birth to 3 years.
